The Day I Met Morrissey features 31 stories stretching a quarter of a century. For some disciples it’s like a religious experience, the greatest moment of their lives. To others a brief encounter with the iconic singer holds trepidation. Even fear.

I noticed a figure at the pic’n’mix”

Jake Atkinson, 1992,
Woolworths, Warrington, England
“At the end of the dullest day of my life, I was ready to shut the counter down and clock off. I looked around the store to see how many customers were loitering and delaying my departure home, I noticed a figure at the pic’n’mix sweets aisle.
“I could only see him from behind but instantly recognised him as a kindrid spirit. He was dressed entirely in matching jeans and denim jacket with a quiff.
“Fantastic,” Jake thought...“It must be another Morrissey fan like me...” Except it wasn’t another fan. It was the man himself...

“It’s too hot in LA for cardigans”
Thomas Charles Hastings II, August 17th, 2003,
Hollywood, Los Angeles, America
Tom: “I used to have your posters on my wall and I used to always wear Morrissey T-shirts with jeans and sport coats. I’ve been through all the different phases of being a Morrissey fan.”
Morrissey: “Well, we do get older and we do grow up.”
Kenny: “...as a teenager I would wear old thrift store cardigans with Smiths and
Morrissey T-shirts.”
Morrissey: “You should get back into them.”
Kenny: “I would. But it’s just a bit too hot in LA to be wearing cardigans...”
